Donation to Mater Research for $302,117.20 to purchase equipment for Prostate Cancer Research
On behalf of Lions Clubs throughout Australia, Lions Prostate Cancer Treatment Project was able to donate $302,117-20 towards purchase of Eppendorf S41i CO2 and Cytiva Biacore 1K system. This donation would not have been possible without the generous donations from Lions Clubs around Australia. Clubs from Kangaroo Island to Cowaramup, to Capalaba to Kellyville to Yeppoon to Marysville & District.
Prostate Cancer Awareness event 1 Sept 2026 – Holland Park Hotel, Brisbane
The 2nd Lions Prostate Cancer Awareness event was successfully held at Holland Park Hotel on 1 September 2026 with a FULL house. We are extremely appreciative to:
Guest speakers: Dr Sam Davies – Mater Urologist & Robotics, Deidre – Mater Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse, Prof. John Hooper – Mater Research and especially Cr. Ryan Murphy – Councillor for Chandler Ward & Prostate Cancer Awareness Advocate, for giving up their time with great information and discussions.
The event was held in the month of September to coincide with Prostate Cancer Awareness month, with the aim of promoting Prostate Cancer early detection and awareness.
The Prostate Cancer Awareness event was co-hosted by Brisbane Holland Park Lions Club.

A successful initial Lions Prostate Cancer Awareness event was held at Holland Park, Brisbane in September 2025. “September is Prostate Cancer Awareness month”. Lions Prostate Cancer Awareness event included presentations by Cr. Ryan Murphy (Brisbane City Councillor) and Mater Cancer Care Clinicians & Professor Hooper from Mater Research

We would like to thank all Lions Clubs for their ongoing support over a 20 years+ period. Some clubs in smaller communities, have limited fundraising capabilities and other clubs have greater resources, in all cases we appreciate the level of commitment and support from all Lions Clubs Australia wide.
